I have always believed that weather is unpredictable. We can make our forecasts, but we never know for sure.

When we think about faith, resiliency and natural disasters, we can approach that question from a micro, mezzo or macro perspective.

When the only source of income for you and your family can so quickly and unexpectedly be swept away by nature, what do you do about that?

In 2010 when a 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti, I found myself glued to the TV like the rest of America watching the images come through and the death toll rise.

"Faith, Resiliency and Natural Disasters" is a very fruitful topic that can go many different ways. However, when I mention it I get replies that addressed only one aspect: Is the disaster the result of God wanting to punish those experiencing it?

One aspect of Scouting was always planning what to do in case of an emergency.  The BSA motto, Be Prepared, is the epitome of this philosophy.

From a Christian perspective this statement seems to imply that God is NOT everywhere, present, and fillest all things or that he is present and chooses not to intervene for reasons beyond our understanding. If he is absent in any experience or event, does this imply that God can only be in one place at a time? Would he be God if that were the case?
