A survey released this week shows Americans remain divided over the legalization of marijuana.

According to the Public Religion Research Institute 45 percent of Americans favor making the use of marijuana legal, while 49 percent are opposed.

Next week Washington could be one of three states legalizing marijuana for recreational use.

Currently the use of medical marijuana is permitted in about one-third of the country, but advocates are hoping to get it a step further.
