Jewish and Palestinian food was on the menu Sunday at Feast World Kitchen in downtown Spokane to raise money for The Parents Circle, a joint Israeli-Palestinian organization that works to promote dialogue, tolerance, reconciliation and peace.

I first walked Palestine Park in 1953 as a teenager. It’s a soccer-field-sized scale model of the Holy Land, sculpted in 1874 along the southwestern shore of Chautauqua Lake in upstate New York.

Although support for Israel has dwindled among younger evangelicals, according to a 2021 poll, it remains a core value for most, a Pew survey released in May found.

The absence of Palestinians and their advocates from news coverage isn’t just unfair. As a Jewish American, I think it’s harmful.

If we let all the bad news wear us down, then evil wins. I think there is a balance to find while staying aware, empathetic and compassionate.

Last weekend when I woke up and checked my phone it didn’t feel like a normal Saturday. A hole was created in my chest. When I saw Israel was attacked by Hamas, my heart sank deep in my chest. And it has hit me hard. Way harder than I expected.
