With the threat of racism and white supremacy affecting the country nationally and locally, the upcoming virtual Chertok Lecture Series intends to help students at Eastern Washington University and community members learn more about this pressing issue.

But in the past few years, I’ve noticed a shift. It now feels like the students, rather than the university administration, are leading the way in the area of diversity.

On Nov. 28 Eastern Washington University will launch a lecture series on Buddhist meditation, wisdom and healing.

Weatherford will be coming to the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox as part of The President’s Forum for Critical Thought at Eastern Washington University, which is a lecture series supported by the Daniel and Margaret Carper Foundation.

They estimate EWU has at least 500 to 700 Muslim students, possibly more.

All of the speakers expressed the importance of initiating progressive dialogue between different religions and cultures.
