Ramadan Mubarak! That means, for our Muslim readers, have a happy Ramadan. The sacred Islamic month started today and will continue until Aug. 19 (Eid-al-Fitr). Read more here to learn about how the Spokane Islamic Center is celebrating.

Thanks to a generous donation from Whitworth alumni the university will now be able to offer full-tuition scholarships for international students. The Elsie A. and Melvin K. Fariss Scholarship for International Students at Whitworth will kick in for the 2012-2013 academic year. You can read details here.

Ever heard of a ‘certified image consultant’? It’s a real vocation and the Latter-day Sentinel has a story this week about a Coeur d'Alene woman who’s making it look pretty good. “As an image consultant, I'm a merchant of self-esteem, so if I can help someone find out who they are and appreciate that and feel empowered by it, I'm all about doing that,” said Linda Davis. Plus she plays soccer, and all soccer players are cool, so you should read the article.

And speaking of cool, I’d like to give a shout out to our very own Angie Funnell who was recently hired to be the marketing guru for World Relief Spokane. She’s a recent Gonzaga graduate and I know she’s going to do a great job helping area refugees.

Finally, next month Bishop Blasé Cupich is going to ordain 18  men who have completed the Spokane Diocese’s four-year course of deacon formation. It will be held Friday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m at the McCarthey Center at Gonzaga. You can read about the future deacons here. Congratulations fellas!

A couple of corrections : fasting is from dawn (not sun rise) to sunset. The pot luck in the Mosque is every Saturday after sun set.
