Pastor Hormoz Shariat, known as the “Billy Graham of Iran” will be speaking in Spokane this week about his evangelism work in the Middle East and Europe.
He is the founder of Iran Alive Ministries, which focuses on viral evangelism, obedience-based discipleship and practical leadership development with the hopes of transforming Iran. According to the ministry's website the organization has partnered with various faith-based organizations to plant and multiply churches in Iran.
Shariat converted from Islam to Christianity in 1980 and has been ministering to Muslims ever since. According to Alive Ministries, “His passion for Muslims stems, in part, because of the murder of Dr. Shariat’s brother, Hamraz, who was arrested in Iran at the age of 16 on a minor political charge. After two years in jail, he was executed by firing squad. God showed Hormoz the best way to respond to this tragedy was to dedicate his life to loving Muslims and sharing the Gospel with as many of them as possible.”
According to Calvary Spokane, Shariat will be speaking about, “the ways God is moving in the nation of Iran and throughout the Middle East.”
He'll speak at the church, 511 W Hastings Road, at 7 p.m. Thursday and again on Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
