While we were shopping on Thanksgiving night, I had an experience that proved to me that there ARE people out there who still know what respect and compassion are, and understand how important service dogs are — they are so much more than just pets.

At the time, I was too surprised to do more than say, “Thank you.” Thinking on it now, I'd like to at least take the guy out for coffee just to better show my appreciation. Here's what happened:

While I was looking at something a guy ran into my service dog, Misty, with a shopping cart. Instead of saying, “Excuse me,” he says, “You need to move your dog.”

A guy passing by glares at him and says, “YOU need to watch where you're going. That dog has more rights than you do.”

Then he asked me if Misty was okay. I told him she was and thanked him. He said, “Have a nice night,”  gave Misty a pat on her head and walked away. While we were walking around, I looked for the guy to tell my husband and friend about him, but I never did see him again.
