I have to admit, for most Christians some of the things that my church adheres to and has held tightly to in the past are a little goofy.

I think that is what separates most North American churches, the goofy stuff. I remember once in high school I had an epiphany about faith prompted by something I had read in a book unique to our faith movement. I was so excited about it that I shared it with some of my friends who were Christian who summarily dismissed what I had found to be so profound. The hurt I experienced was strange, like I was rejected, me, not my thoughts, me.

That is a very clear memory of when religion, not faith, hurt.
