The Rev. Greg Boyle, S.J., a 1977 Gonzaga alumnus and founder of the nonprofit Homeboy Industries, the nation’s largest gang intervention program, will be the keynote speaker for GU’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 10 in Spokane Arena.
Boyle has been an active part of the Gonzaga community, inspiring many with his recent visits to campus, according to an announcement. This year’s graduating class of seniors was assigned to read his book, “Tattoos on the Heart: the Power of Boundless Compassion” when they were freshmen in 2010.
Gonzaga will recognize its other graduates with ceremonies on May 9 at the McCarthey Athletic Center. The Law School commencement will feature Washington State Supreme Court Justice Mary Fairhurst, a Gonzaga University School of Law alumna as keynote speaker.
Later that day the graduate ceremony, which will also be held in the McCarthey Athletic Center, will feature author and journalist Blaine Harden, also a Gonzaga alumnus.
