The Spokane International Film Festival (SPIFF) will feature the award-winning documentary “Bible Quiz” on Saturday at The Magic Lantern.
Directed by Nicole Teeny, the film is about a 17-year old girl, Mikayla, who has memorized more than 2,000 Bible verses. Mikayla has a crush on JP, the Bible Quiz team captain, who only has eyes for the National Bible Quiz Championship. To win, they must compete against thousands of other teens from across the country. Mikayla hopes that if she can lead their team to victory she will find the love she lacks in her own family and will win JP’s heart.
According to reviewers, the documentary “challenges stereotypes and portrays an even-handed look at religion in these teen’s lives as they explore faith, identity, sexuality and competition at one of the most unique summits in evangelical America today.”
Teeny, whose short films and documentaries have won awards and played at festivals worldwide, will be available after the movie to answer questions from the audience. On Sunday she’ll also participate in the 2014 Film Maker forum, at 2 p.m., to further discuss the making of the documentary.
Saturday’s movie begins at 11:30 a.m. in the large Magic Lantern theater. Tickets are $8.
