Candlelight Vigil for ICE Custody Deaths (Sept. 4 | Bothell, Washington | Community)
Community members and faith leaders gather for a candlelight vigil Friday, Sept. 4, from 8-9:30 p.m. at the Bothell Amphitheater, 9919 NE 180th St. The interfaith event, remembering those who died in ICE custody or during ICE operations in 2025 and 2026, is open to all traditions and will include remarks from local faith leaders and community members, songs of remembrance and solidarity and a reading of names. Free parking is available at Bothell Landing and Bothell City Hall.
The Five Forces: Practices for a Lifetime with Ven. Thubten Chodron (Sept. 4-7 | Newport, Washington | Buddhist)
Sravasti Abbey, 692 Country Lane, hosts a Labor Day weekend retreat with Ven. Thubten Chodron on the Five Forces, teachings from Kadampa Geshe Chekawa’s Seven-Point Mind Training on transforming adversity into a path toward awakening. The hybrid retreat runs Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7, with in-person arrival by 3 p.m. Friday and departure after lunch Monday; the retreat will be held in silence. Latah County Human Rights Task Force Booth (Sept. 5 | Moscow, Idaho | Community)
The Latah County Human Rights Task Force will host a booth adjacent to Friendship Square as part of Human Rights Day at the Farmers’ Market, Saturday, Sept. 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The theme, “Democracy: An American Treasure,” will be reflected in a display, youth activities and community engagement opportunities. Organizers say they want to hear from the public.
Paul Bunyan Days Worship in the Park (Sept. 6 | St. Maries, Idaho | Christian)
A coalition of nine area churches hosts Worship in the Park, a community-wide service tied to Paul Bunyan Days, Sunday, Sept. 6, at St. Maries City Park Amphitheater. The morning opens with free breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by worship at 9:45 a.m. featuring live music and guest speaker Lee Arnold, then a prize giveaway at 10:50 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods for a food drive benefiting Community Action Partnership and Upriver Food Bank, with a goal of 2,000 pounds of food.
