Most poets, a lot of them whom I know well, made it to town just three days after a driver hit three homeless people who were sleeping up against a wall in North Spokane.
Downtown church staff have taken notice, and they want to help. Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St. is hosting a panel discussion on homelessness Sept. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.
This week the City of Spokane announced that the number persons and families experiencing homelessness shows a slight decrease in from the last year, for the second consecutive year.
Last winter, city council passed legislation that expanded a law already on the books called the Sit/Lie Law, regarding people sitting or lying down on sidewalks. But in fact, the law is not about sitting or lying down. It's about being homeless.
