Break the Silence Sunday: A powerful worship service dedicated to listening and supporting victims of abuse and violence.

Harmony Woods Retreat Center will host “A Taste of Harmony Woods Open House” this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will include several spiritually-themed indoor and outdoor offerings for individuals and families.

Asking someone who you know is suffering to “Keep me updated” is not only unhelpful, but makes life more difficult for the suffering person. You’re adding to their mental load. You’re not supporting them. You’re not helping. You’re actively making their life more difficult by adding one more thing they need to do in an already incredibly difficult time.

About half of our country has over looked cruelty, lies, authoritarianism, white supremacy, and Christian Dominionism to vote for candidates who promise them wealth and power. We must say, “Stop It!”

This question comes on a day when the U.S. faces its deadliest school shooting since the Newtown massacre: What does healing look like to you? 

I am sorry that so many of us have deeply internalized the message that we mustn’t let anyone know when we are in a place of grief or disorientation or lostness. I am especially sorry when we feel that we cannot share these things at church, that the church is not a place in which we can be physically or emotionally or spiritually wounded, that we need to be whole and healthy before we show up in God’s house.
