Faith Leaders and Leaders of Conscience helped inspire a Spokane City Council resolution to censure Mayor Nadine Woodward for her Aug. 20 “Let Us Worship” appearance alongside controversial pastor Matt Shea and self-proclaimed Christian nationalist Sean Feucht.

In the week following the vandalism, Heywood describes an outpouring of community support, including from activists, nonprofits, and other religious institutions. An anonymous donor replaced the stolen flags, and folks from all over donated funds to a campaign to help the church purchase security cameras. But, something was missing: the support and official condemnation of the act from officials at the City of Spokane Valley. 

Reckless, hateful speech from a religious leader has no place in our public discourse.

As people of faith and conscience, we call for halting TC Energy’s plans to add more fracked gas to the Gas Transmission Northwest (GTN) pipeline through its “GTN Xpress.”

According to an announcement, on Tuesday (Nov. 30) a vigil will be held at Veradale United Church of Christ in response to "immoral systemic racism in our justice system."
