I started to think about all those people we had just talked about at Coffee Talk – the people sleeping under downtown bridges or in doorways of businesses closed for the night or in their cars.
In agreeing to disagree with true humility, we leave open the possibility that we might learn from and be changed by each other, in ways we might barely imagine.
So why is it so hard to agree to disagree agreeably? And how can we make this process easier for ourselves to produce a kindness toward others with whom our opinions differ?
So, how do we start this process of interfaith education? How do we get to know our neighbors? Perhaps because of my Christian upbringing, I suggest we do as Christ modeled for us. We break bread with them.
