Local program seeks volunteers to help seniors, disabled residents with yard work

Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington is recruiting volunteer groups to help older adults and people with disabilities rake leaves and shovel snow through its “Adopt A Neighbor” program.

The organization is seeking clubs, businesses, churches, schools and other groups throughout Spokane County willing to adopt one or more community members who need assistance. Volunteers are particularly needed in the 99205 and 99208 ZIP codes, where requests are highest.

Groups decide how many neighbors they can support. When ALTCEW receives a request for help, it provides volunteers with contact information, and the two parties coordinate directly.

The commitment is flexible — once a group reaches capacity, ALTCEW stops sending new referrals.

Interested groups can contact ALTCEW at action@altcew.org or 509-960-7281. More information is available at www.altcew.org.
