“Reuse, repurpose, recycle” came to life April 25 when hundreds gathered for the Earth Day Block Party at West Central Abbey in Spokane. River City Youth distributed more than 50 donated bicycles, while the Mend It Cafe, hosted by Spokane Zero Waste, repaired attendees’ clothing on the spot. Community organizations staffed booths, and native plants and food were available throughout the day.

On this episode of the Religion Desk, Kate Burke, executive director of River City Youth, and Elyse Hochstadt, executive director of Spokane Zero Waste, join us from the block party to talk about their organizations’ work and why reuse matters. The episode also features music from Spokane’s Raging Grannies and Hannah Wynn.
