Two Spokane-area colleges will host their annual Christmas concerts this weekend, giving voice to the season in unique spaces: one at St. John’s Cathedral and the other at Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center.

Described as Whitworth University’s “most beloved concerts” in a press release, the 2025 Christmas Festival Concert’s title this year is titled “Jubilate Deo” or “Rejoice in God.” The event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m., at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

The concert will feature the Whitworth Choir, Forest Treble Choir and Ponderosa Tenor Bass Choir as well as the Whitworth Brass Quintet.

For the finale, the concert will present an arrangement based on the renowned organ repertoire, Charles-Marie Widor’s Toccata from Symphony No. 5, to highlight the organ at the Cathedral with the accompaniment of choirs, the brass quintet and percussion, meant to send “the audience off into this joyful season.”

Ticket prices range from $15-$20 and can be purchased online

Gonzaga University’s Music Department will host their annual Candlelight Christmas holiday concert, which includes the Gonzaga Choirs and Jazz Ensembles, along with special guests, with two concerts on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and one on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m.

These concerts will take place on campus at the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center’s Coughlin Theater.

Tickets range from $15 to $35 and are open to all ages. The concert’s run time is 90 minutes with no intermission, and tickets can be purchased online.

On the event’s website, the concert is described as one full of familiar holiday favorites and timeless choral melodies that will light the way of all listening “through even the darkest of times.”
