I celebrate Christmas not because I’m celebrating the actual birth of Jesus, but because I’m celebrating the symbolic birth of light. I celebrate the Solstice first on Dec. 21 and then I celebrate Christmas along with everyone else. I’m celebrating the light of giving, sharing, hope in humanity, belief and trust that the darkness in people’s hearts will be transcended back toward the light of their true nature. The Infinite Divine. I am celebrating the idea that goodwill toward men and women isn’t just a nice idea for the month of December but rather a way of life for our own spiritual survival.

As a non-Christian I celebrate Christmas with a passion for it’s ancient symbolism and poetry not because of the blending of the four Gospel stories that create the Christmas tradition we are familiar with now. Christmas is a glorious tradition with very old roots worthy of celebration by all who are warmed by the light of love.
