ywca_woaThe YWCA of Spokane is seeking nominees for the annual Women of Achievement awards.

For 32 years the YWCA has honored women in the Spokane community who embody the organization’s mission by giving generously of themselves to make this region a better place to live, through professional leadership and/or service to the community, according to an announcement.

Nominees are being sought for the following categories:

• Arts and Culture
• Business & Industry
• Carl J. Maxey Racial & Social Justice Award
• Community Enhancement
• Education
• Science,Technology & Environment
 

The deadline for submissions is Aug.15.

The nomination form can be downloaded online and mailed to YWCA Spokane at 930 N. Monroe St., Spokane, WA 9920,  emailed to development@ywcaspokane.org or faxed to (509) 326-1597. All information provided on the nomination form will be kept confidential.

According to an announcement, a panel of judges will select the recipients of each award and the recipients will be our guests at the Women of Achievement Luncheon on Oct. .

In her approximate 20 years on the religion beat, Simmons has tucked a notepad in her pocket and found some of her favorite stories aboard cargo ships in New Jersey, on a police chase in Albuquerque, in dusty Texas church bell towers, on the streets of New York and in tent cities in Haiti. Simmons has worked as a multimedia journalist for newspapers across New Mexico, Texas, Connecticut and Washington. She is the executive director of FāVS.News, a digital journalism start-up covering religion news and commentary in Spokane, Washington. She also writes for The Spokesman-Review and national publications. She is a Scholarly Associate Professor of Journalism at Washington State University.
