Ask A Mormon: Can you be baptized after death?

Mormons believe that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). He loves all of his children, regardless of when or where they were born. We also believe that baptism, and the covenants we make at baptism, are stepping stones on the path to salvation and exaltation.

The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist
The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist

On Sunday, at 4 p.m., the Cathedral Choirs of St. John the Evangelist will celebrate the Advent Season through its annual service of Lessons & Carols.

Begun in 1880 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Edward White Benson, the traditional Nine Lessons & Carols brings together the ancient readings and songs of the Christmas Season, according to a press release from the cathedral.

The St. John’s Junior Choristers will introduce the processional for Lessons & Carols with “Once in Royal David’s City,” followed by the Scripture readings that link the coming of Christ to the earliest promises of the prophets and the familiar Christmas story. Separating the individual readings, will be anthems sung by the Cathedral Choir including “Creator of the Stars of Night” and Edvard Grieg’s lovely “Ave Maris Stella.” The Chancel Bell Choir will play a Catalonian carol, the congregation will sing a final hymn.

For more information, check the Cathedral website or call the Cathedral at 838-4277.
