Nicholas Damascus

As an infant, I was baptized as an Eastern Orthodox Christian. However, I would say that becoming a Christian is a work in progress, and I often wonder would there be enough evidence to convict me of becoming a Christian. The Orthodox Church is the ancient Church that Christ and the Apostles established. It is not a religion but rather a way of life. It is not about rules and regulations but rather guide posts to make choices to transition to what we were designed to become. Becoming Orthodox is not a conversion but more so a transformation of self. It’s not about being right: it is about “right being.” In John 14:6, Christ says I am the Way (to love and serve one another), the Truth (there is only one reality), and the Life (that life source is love). I invite you to submit any topics or questions to “Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian” on the website. Join me in finding our way back home to the original teachings of the Church. When you change the way you look at things, things change the way they look.

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: Tattoos & Conversion

When converting to the Orthodox faith, one does not expect to go back and rewrite their past, but begin their journey from the point of commitment.

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: Attitude and Behavior

The Orthodox attitude is that everyone is a child of God, a crown of God’s creation.

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: Trinitarian Theology

Is the Father the source of the other two persons' being God as well? If this is so, is this not a different explanation from the Protestant and Catholic understanding of the Trinity, the main point being the energies/essence distinction? I know it’s a lot but isn’t salvation a lot?

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: Restoring Your Marriage

In the Eastern Orthodox Church marriage is a sacred and holy mystery joining a man and a woman in union with God.

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: Posture in Church

If, let’s say, the president of our country greeted you or, let’s say, the leader of your church or the governor or senator of your state, would you be sitting down while they continued to stand?

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: How do you do This Thing Called Christianity?

One primary reason why one might want to become a Christian has to do with the will of God and His unconditional love for all of mankind. His will is for us to become more like Him by His grace and mercy for us to be able to receive all that He wants to give us, that being, all that He is.

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: Ancestral Sin

In the Eastern Orthodox Church, it is a teaching that no one is guilty of the original sin that Adam and Eve committed.
