Ask A Mormon: Can you be baptized after death?

Mormons believe that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). He loves all of his children, regardless of when or where they were born. We also believe that baptism, and the covenants we make at baptism, are stepping stones on the path to salvation and exaltation.

What do you want to know about Religious Science? Revs. Joe and Toni Niemiec, New Thought ministers, are ready to answer your questions. Fill out the form below or .

Q. Where’s the world headed?

A. In Religious Science, we know that what has gone before may have absolutely nothing to do with the future if we, as a race, make new choices.

There is what we call race consciousness, which is basically what people believe as a race, the human, then the national, and so on. We know that as individuals raise their own consciousness, race consciousness is raised to an even higher level.

An explicit example of this is the civil rights movement in the United States. In the 1940s and ’50s, outright racism was not only recognized but supported in a large segment of our country. As people stood up and said no, the consciousness as a nation was raised and laws were passed. Now we have a president of mixed race, when in 1960, it was thought to be extraordinary to have an Irish Catholic president.

If the human race in general raises its level of awareness of areas in which we no longer need to participate (e.g. wars) in order to eliminate problems, the future could be very different from what we are presently experiencing. We need not have just one religion or a world without borders, but we must have a fundamental respect for all life and a sense of equality. If a large majority of humanity continues to believe that hate and violence are the only way to eliminate differences, then history will continue the pattern that’s been experienced since the beginning of recorded history.

My short answer to your question is that I cannot predict the future. The long answer is that our future will be what we truly, deeply believe it can be … if enough of us are willing to work for it.

The Rev. Joe Niemiec Jr. began his spiritual quest in 1986 when he walked out of a Houston jail and was struck by the realization that his life was in shambles. He began his quest for ‘getting back on track’ with 12 step programs, followed by learning and practicing meditation with a local Redding, California, teacher.
