What rules do I have to follow to join Islam?
In order to join Islam or become a Muslim, there are no rules but a belief and intent followed by living life according to the five pillars of Islam.
All one has to do is to believe and declare the “Testimony of Faith” — the Shahada, the first pillar of Islam — that there is only one God, Allah, who created the entire universe, and that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His final messenger on Earth.
If you recite this, with total sincerity, in front of two witnesses, you have become a Muslim. It really is as simple as that.
The Five Pillars of Islam are Shahada (testimony of faith), Salah (prayer), Zakat (charity), Sawm (fasting) and Hajj (pilgrimage) – if financially and physically able to do so. There are also some rules and practices to follow in daily lives in relation to diet, prayer and ethical behaviors.
