Gonzaga University will host the 19th Annual African American Spokane Community Graduation Celebration at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 25 in the Cataldo Hall Globe Room.
On Monday Gonzaga University and Gonzaga Prep came together to publicly sign the St. Francis Pledge to Care, which Brian G. Henning, co-chair of Gonzaga’s Advisory Council on Stewardship and Sustainability, said reflects the institutions Jesuit mission to care for the planet and those living in poverty.
Gonzaga University President Thayne McCulloh has approved Gonzaga’s first comprehensive Climate Action Plan, which aims for Gonzaga to achieve climate neutrality — zero emissions — by 2050, said Brian G. Henning, associate professor of philosophy and co-chair of Gonzaga’s Advisory Council on Stewardship and Sustainability in a press release.
Gonzaga University made national headlines last week after protestors submitted a petition to the school, claiming the institution had lost sight of its Catholic values by inviting Archbishop Desmond Tutu to speak at next month’s commencement, where he will be presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
