A recent conversation via Facebook inspired me to address the continuing saga of the Affordable Care Act since it seems to be one of the main reasons the government shutdown continues.
Republican congressman Paul Ryan, who has touted his Catholic faith as evidence of his social as well as economic conservatism, has come out in favor of gay couples adopting children — a significant break with the Catholic hierarchy, which has even shut down adoption services rather than placing children with same-sex couples.
The left is jubilant that Mitt Romney has chosen Paul Ryan as his vice president running mate. The argument seems to be that Americans, by a significant majority, do not agree with the values that Ryan holds, particularly the values that are actually reflected in the “Ryan budget.”
