When I was asked to write an article for a panel on "ethics and money,” my first thought was, “How could I write a post on that? I’ve never had any money.” People think of the wealthy in discussions like these: “With great power, comes great responsibility.” But not often do people think of the non-rich.
Last week I had the privilege of being part of a progressive roundtable meeting with Senator Patty Murray and her staff. Murray listened to, and engaged with, 16 representatives from various local entities concerned about the sequester and other federal economic policy actions.
As I was driving home this evening from a massive amount of errands, the song “Little Drummer Boy” by Jars of Clay came on the radio. This is far from my favorite Christmas song, but the words came to a deeper meaning this particular holiday.
At first glance these seem like simple questions, but beneath it is a deeper implication into our actions. We may want others to help us, we may want others to trust us, but we are reluctant to give these things to others.
