James Hunt, professor of history emeritus at Whitworth University, and co-founder of The Krista Foundation for Global Citizenship, will lead a discussion titled “Companionship with Nature: Young John Muir” at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.

At the event Hunt will talk about the questions that consciously or unconsciously inform one’s approach to the earth, including:

  • How should persons informed by Christian faith view their relationship with nature?
  • Can youthful travel that engages a person be as transformative to their thinking as it was to John Muir‘s?
  • Is the relationship one of dominion, stewardship, or creation care?

Muir was a naturalist and preservationist who lived at the turn of the 19th century.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. and babysitting is available. Eucharist will be offered at 6:15 p.m.
