Ask A Mormon: Can you be baptized after death?

Mormons believe that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). He loves all of his children, regardless of when or where they were born. We also believe that baptism, and the covenants we make at baptism, are stepping stones on the path to salvation and exaltation.

Thirteen Spokane area churches have made a commitment to 'Reclaim Christmas' by volunteering, simplifying and supporting the community.

According to United Methodist Communiciations, Reclaiming Christmas is part of the RethinkChurch program. The UMC website reads:

Every year, we say we’re going to cut back, simplify, and have a family Christmas that focuses on the real reason for the season — Jesus. But every year, advertisements beckon, the children plead, and it seems easier just to indulge our wants and whims. Overspending, overeating, materialism, and busyness rob us of our peace and joy and rob Jesus of his rightful role as the center of our celebration.

The Reclaim Christmas intiative ecnourages congregations to simplify by spending less money this holiday season, and giving more time instead. It encourages local volunteerism and supporting the community through alternative giving.

A list of participating churches can be found on the RethinkChurch homepage by typing in the Spokane area zipcode

I think this is a really cool idea. I wish it were also ecumenical – that a non-Methodist church and pledge as well.
