Ask A Mormon: Can you be baptized after death?

Mormons believe that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). He loves all of his children, regardless of when or where they were born. We also believe that baptism, and the covenants we make at baptism, are stepping stones on the path to salvation and exaltation.

Chenrezig Hall is being built at Sravasti Abbey
Chenrezig Hall is being built at Sravasti Abbey

More than 200 people have sent in donations for Sravasti Abbey's Compassion Match campaign to help build Chenrezig Hall, which will allow more space for guests and residents.

Inspired by Chenrezig, Buddha of Compassion, an anonymous donor offered a $100,000 challenge, inviting friends of Sravasti Abbey to match his gift to help build Chenrezig Hall, according to the Friends of Sravasti Abbey website.

The abbey announced last week that the donations came in two weeks ahead of the Dec. 1 deadline.

“These gifts — totaling more than $100,000 — tell us there's a lot of enthusiasm for this project, and Friends of Sravasti Abbey are rejoicing and looking forward to the next steps in building Chenrezig Hall,” residents of the abbey stated in a recent announcement.

Currently the first story walls are up and the foundation footings and slab have been poured.

The abbey hopes to generate an additional $150,000 over the next two months to complete the project.
