Where We Worship: Salem Lutheran Church focuses on building community in Spokane

Chuckles rose from the congregation as many remembered the words to “Eyes on the Prize,” a 1960s freedom song, which was sung during worship on the seventh Sunday of Easter at Salem Lutheran Church.

Blending traditional hymns, prayers, and Bible readings, Salem Lutheran, which is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, holds service Sundays at 10:15 a.m.

Spokane-based ministry provides clean water to Guatemela villages

Water for Life provides sustainable clean water, medical and dental care, and the news of the Gospel for rural villages in Guatemala.

The mission for clean water began when Gary noticed that the villagers around Los Pinos were drinking from hand-dug holes in the ground that were filled with muddy, stagnant water and debris, including dead vermin.

Upcoming Spokane conference to focus on economic justice, action

The fourth annual Peace and Economic Justice Action Conference will take place March 15-16 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

Organized by the Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane,  or PJALS, the conference aims to educate people on local and national issues, get them excited about positive change and help provide ways for to put their interests and passions into action.

I turn to the Bible for advice

When I'm feeling down, I generally journal my thoughts and work through my emotions on paper. This practice helps me to come to an understanding as to why I am feeling down.
