Holy Week — the days leading to Easter — began March 20 with observance of Palm Sunday, when Christians carry palm branches to recall the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem before his crucifixion. Celebrations will continue throughout the week, particularly with Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and, of course, Easter Sunday services.

Eliza Kinnaman grew up on the west side of Washington State, not far from the ocean waves.
