A Transgender Day of Remembrance event will be held this weekend at Westminster United Church of Christ.

Transgender day of Remembrance is an annual time to memorialize those who have been murdered or have committed suicide as a result of transphobia. It’s also a time to raise awareness about the violence endured by many in the transgender community.

The Spokane event will start with a candlelight memorial in Westminster’s sanctuary, where speakers and poets will share their work. Additionally the names of those who have died will be read. Afterwards will be a time in the church fellowship hall for refreshments and networking.

The ceremony will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
