Efforts to reform Spokane's criminal justice system are under way. The Smart Justice Spokane Community Symposium will be held Saturday (Nov. 15) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gonzaga University School of Law.
The Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane is teaming up with Smart Justice Spokane and I Did the Time to invite those in the community who have experienced the realities of the criminal justice system to share their stories through the Smart Justice PhotoVoice Project.
The agenda was jam-packed with judges, prosecutors, public defenders, attorneys and legal system experts from all over Washington and beyond. There was a wealth of information on statistics, risk assessment, alternate courts, community safety, DOC re-entry programs, and some very good comments from our sheriff, police chief and mayor. There was way too much information to share in a post like this so I thought I would give you some highlights and my own insights.
