Like the volatile nature of gun powder, gun control debates can explode at any second if struck with the right amount of fire power. Following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, the nation has been buzzing about what we should do with guns: More guns, fewer guns, and mental health care have all been argued over and over in the foul and fervent fashion that only online discussions could offer.

WASHINGTON — As bells tolled across the country on Friday (Dec. 21) in memory of lives lost in Newtown, Conn., religious leaders gathered outside the Washington National Cathedral to push congregants and Congress to prevent further gun violence.

“Is the need for sensible gun control a religious issue?” asked Rabbi David Saperstein, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism.

I am called to live by the principle of 'Do to others as I would want done to myself.' If my kids or wife were in danger of harm or death, I would hope someone who had the power to protect them would step in and save them from danger. I would do the same for others.

On Dec. 6, the first day same-sex couples could legally apply for marriage licenses, staff at the Spokane County Courthouse processed 23 applications.

Today is the first day same-sex couples could apply for marriage applications in Washington. The Spokane County auditor’s office is reporting that staff processed 28 marriage applications today, with 23 issued to same gender couples.

Today hundreds of same-sex couples in Washington state were able to apply for marriage licenses.

With the passage of Referendum 74, same gender couples will be able to apply for marriage licenses beginning on Thursday.
