The death penalty drama, “The Exonerated,” will return Spokane the week before Thanksgiving. Hosted by the Gonzaga University Department of Theatre and Arts. “The Exonerated” is a dramatic reading of the actual words of six wrongfully condemned persons who emerged from death row to reclaim their lives.
“With 146 exonerations nationally and an undetermined number of innocents still on death row or already executed, we should give pause and explore other sentencing options which keep us safe, are less costly, and do not risk the lives of the innocents caught in a broken criminal justice system.” said Shar Lichty, organizer at the Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane, which is presenting the performance. ” We hope these powerful performances will increase public awareness and respectful debate on the issue.”
The drama will be Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Gonzaga’s Magnuson Theatre.
General admission and student tickets are available for $10 and $5 at pjals.org/exonerated.
