Nicholas Damascus

As an infant, I was baptized as an Eastern Orthodox Christian. However, I would say that becoming a Christian is a work in progress, and I often wonder would there be enough evidence to convict me of becoming a Christian. The Orthodox Church is the ancient Church that Christ and the Apostles established. It is not a religion but rather a way of life. It is not about rules and regulations but rather guide posts to make choices to transition to what we were designed to become. Becoming Orthodox is not a conversion but more so a transformation of self. It’s not about being right: it is about “right being.” In John 14:6, Christ says I am the Way (to love and serve one another), the Truth (there is only one reality), and the Life (that life source is love). I invite you to submit any topics or questions to “Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian” on the website. Join me in finding our way back home to the original teachings of the Church. When you change the way you look at things, things change the way they look.

Ask an EOC: Does Baptism Clear All Sin, Even Blasphemy?

The Sacrament of Baptism can be said to be an outward sign of an inward belief, a profession of faith, a rite of passage, the beginning of eternal life and the gateway to enter the Kingdom of God.

Ask an EOC: How Can I Stop Blasphemous Thoughts?

If we nurture blasphemous thoughts of evil and worldly passions of pride, greed, lust, jealousy, gluttony, covetousness and sometimes anger, we destroy that inner peace. Our lives become chaotic and in disarray, and, more importantly, we lose control.

Ask an Eastern Orthodox Christian: What Is Hell?

What can you tell me about hell, because I am a convert from the Baptist church where they taught that was a literal lake of fire?

Ask an Eastern Orthodox Christian: Will God Forgive the Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit of God?

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit occurs when a person actively and willingly pursues a conscious, continuous deliberate malicious attitude of rejecting the Holy Spirit of God, calling God, who is Good, evil.

Ask an Eastern Orthodox Christian: Can Our Loved Ones See Us and Hear Us from Heaven?

In the Orthodox faith, the bond of love between those who are present and those who departed exists and is upheld through mutual prayer for one another. Should a man that has prayed for his wife for 50 years stop praying for her after she has departed? Prayers for the departed help them; however, we don’t know how.

Ask An Eastern Orthodox Christian: Does God Punish Us?

Our Christian God is a God of love who does not destroy any created human being or heavenly hosts such as angels.

Ask an Eastern Orthodox Christian: Do All Christians Go to Heaven?

This Ask an Eastern Orthodox Christian column answers the question: Do all Christians go to Heaven?
